ROLE PURPOSE – THIS ROLE DEFINES THE APPROACH TO DATA ENGINEERING TO DELIVER THE CURRENT AND FUTURE BUSINESS GOALS

Are you an established Head Of Data Engineering searching for a role which is totally unique whereby you are able to shape, establish and scale the total vision and strategy of a Data practice embarking on a huge cloud migration within a FTSE100 global institution with an £8B turnover...How often do these roles of cross organisational influence come up with what is one of the worlds best known brands ?? - The answer - exceptionally rarely ! Its hard to overstate the proposition and opportunity, the scale and challenge.

The scope:- You will ensure the business utilises the right data engineering practises and frameworks to curate our comprehensive data platforms. It needs to provide accurate and timely data into data stores, dashboards, advanced data science and machine learning models, and out to other applications.

Accountabilities

You will set the data engineering strategy for the business around the way it ingests data sources to support the business. You will be the data engineering lead on the cloud migration programme, to meet business objectives and programme deliverables, defining the data engineering policies and frameworks required.

You will work with wider Data & Automation leadership teams to deliver departmental strategy including delivery of transformation initiatives.

You will work with the Insights and Innovation teams to ensure alignment of data and analysis solutions. You will manage relationships with data engineering architects to ensure frameworks meet architectural standards

You will liaise closely with Internal organisations on data governance and management decisions.

You will provide data engineering recommendations with optimum solutions, supported with roadmaps. Provide the structure of a quality assurance process taking the best of what the business already does

You will recruit and nurture a specialist team of internal resources – with external expert resource contracted as required – to deliver first-class data engineering

Ensure awareness of new tools and technical capabilities within the data industry. Support trials, POC’s and RFP’s as required to assess potential for use in the business

Manage relationships with third party suppliers. Assess potential for change, risk and impact when proposing change to data engineering frameworks.

Skills / capabilities

  • Data Management Technology – exploitation of efficient enterprise data management technologies, including database platforms, ETL tools, and SQL
  • Excellent knowledge of data pipeline delivery through CI/CD tools like Github
  • Data Modelling – Creation of conceptual, logical and physical data models
  • Change management – confident managing complexity and planning through change
  • Stakeholder Management – management of complex stakeholder relationships across the wider business areas including customer Loyalty, required to gain acceptance of target solution architecture
  • Consistent leadership role in designing and/or producing high complexity Data & BI solutions and growing and developing Data Engineering teams

Qualifications / experience

Managing 3rd party suppliers

• Leading company expert in data and BI tools and technologies e.g. Teradata, AWS,

Snowflake etc (Essential)

  • Experienced and confident leadership of data
  • engineering activities within the area of Data
  • and Business Intelligence (Essential)

Existing data engineering team size 100+

Existing Insights team 100+

Special attention given to those with a retail background although by no means essential. Working conditions - 2-3 days per week in office / Hybrid.
